One of the charities that I’m involved with and I try to donate as much time as possible is the Arizona Humane Society. Specifically, I have a great affection for beagles. As a result, I work as a foster parent which means that when beagles are at the Maricopa County shelter or the Scottsdale K-9 country club, and they are overcrowded or need special care after surgical procedures or are sick, I will pick them up and bring them to my home and act as a foster parent until the beagles can be placed a more permanent situation.
Now this part of the process is not very expensive. However, the Maricopa County shelter and the Canine country club require quite a bit of money to operate for the professionals who will make this their job, the veterinarians who donatetheir time the physical space, dog food and the occasional rawhide or cookie 
So, annually the Arizona Beagle rescue society puts on a wonderful event called ‘Beagle Fest’ !
The mission of the Arizona Beagle rescue society is as follows:
AZBR’s mission includes:
* Preventing the euthanization of Beagles throughout the state of Arizona
* Finding Forever Homes for homeless Beagles
* Providing beagles and their companions the opportunity to interact with other beagles and beagle fans
* Helping beagle guardians better understand their beagle’s temperament and traits
* Guiding people who have found a stray beagle in the appropriate and legal step to take
* Assisting those who need to find their beagle a new home, when they can no longer keep their beagle
* Educating the public on the importance of spay and neuter
Annually, in order to support their cause, the Arizona Beagle rescue society puts on Beagle Fest:
This year, is the 10th annual ‘BeagleFest’ fundraising event will be held on March 20, 2011 at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ: which is a celebration of the beagle breed for adults, children, and their leashed dogs, featuring:
• Contests, games, and an alumni parade
• Exhibitors and demonstrations
• Food vendors
• Raffle drawings and a silent auction
• Children’s activities
• Pet services (nail trims, canine massage, pet psychic, etc.)
The best way I can describe Beagle Fest is buy asking question: ”’What’s not to like about a ‘longest ears’ contest or an award given to the ‘worst behaved Beagle’ ? “”
If you are a local merchant and would like some great exposure for your product or service or company and simultaneously donate to a worthy cause,the volunteers and Beagle for our looking for sponsors for raffles and silent auctions.
If you are considering adopting a pet please come to Beagle. On March 20 and make one of these wonderful animals a part of your life and give them what we call a forever home.
And of course, if you just want to enjoy the day with your family or friends and enjoyed a lot of laughter and smiles please come see us in Tempe on Saturday, March 20. I promise you won’t be disappointed and you may just leave with your new best friend !
